On a flat plot of 730 sqm over an amphitheatrical hill that overlooks the seaside village of Makry Gialos, it was designed as an 85 sqm ground floor residence with a small pool.
The factors that mainly influenced the design approach were the view of the sea and the small port of Makry Gialos, the privacy from the neighbouring buildings and the narrow shape of the plot.
The building’s volume is pulled back from the plot’s perimeter on two sides to create gardens while the rest is attached to the borders and it consists of interior and exterior spaces with uncertain boundaries between them following a holistic design approach.
In the south, the garden area size creates a distance from the neighbouring small house in the corner while opening the view to the sea and the small port. In the west, a garden with rocks, vegetation and trees provides a nice view for the two bedrooms while it works as a privacy filter from the house’s exterior activities.
The volume of the building is completely attached on the east side except for a small recess which creates the entrance. So, the building has turned its back to the attached two-floor house providing privacy to all the interior and exterior spaces. It embraces a small pool which brings the element of water in the centre as it is easily accessible from the interior and exterior spaces while it works as a link between them.
